There are a couple of different types of fire opals, but this one is mined in the Mexican states of Queretaro (my favorite state), Hidalgo, Guerrero, Michoacan, Jalisco, Chihuahua, and San Luis Potosi. It is a national gemstone treasure in Mexico.
